Supported Meals

Supported meals aim to decrease anxiety around mealtime, challenge food rules and rituals, and increase flexibility with food choices for individuals with eating disorders or disordered eating patterns.

What is a supported meal?

Supported meals are 60-minute sessions with a registered dietitian or recovery coach that take place during a meal. Before and after the meal itself, you will have the opportunity to discuss thoughts, feelings, and challenges around the meal. You will learn valuable tools to manage food-related anxiety to take outside of sessions to use during meals throughout your week. This is also a safe space to practice fear foods or challenge foods in a supported manner. Supported meals are generally an add-on service to nutrition sessions with a registered dietitian.

How It Works

Step 1: Getting Started.

Schedule a free discovery call, which you can do by clicking here. You’re not committing to working with us if you complete the call — it simply allows us to answer your questions and get the process started.

Step 2: The First Session.

We’ll get started with a 60-minute intake session where we’ll talk about your nutrition- and health-related histories, your current eating and movement patterns, and anything else that you think is relevant to our work together. This gives us the opportunity to learn all about you so we can best support you during meals. This intake appointment helps us determine that we are a good fit to work together and that we are able to provide the care that is best suited for your needs. Please note that we require a medical assessment/physical to be completed by your primary care doctor upon intake so we can learn more about your health status and determine your medical baseline.

Step 3: Supported Meals.

Supported meals can be scheduled individually or as part of packages. We find that it is most beneficial to schedule supports during the more challenging meals of the day or week so we can optimize the level of support that you receive. You will work with your dietitian to decide on what meal to eat during your support and will have the option to prepare your meal at home or order it from a restaurant convenient to your location.
